Miss Federica D’Asta is a Consultant Burns & Laser Surgeon providing specialist scar assessment and treatment for adults and children at Midland Skin.

• MD (University of Florence, Italy). This means I have completed a medical degree and I am a doctor.
• MSc (University of Birmingham, UK). This means I completed a Master of Science degree, further developing my expertise in clinical research and evidence-based practice.
• GMC Specialist Register for Paediatric Surgery. This means I have completed all the necessary training and experience to be called a Consultant Paediatric Surgeon.

Training

Miss D’Asta graduated from the University of Florence before completing specialist training in Paediatric Surgery. She subsequently undertook a Clinical Research Fellowship in Burns at Birmingham Children’s Hospital, where she was later appointed Consultant Paediatric Burns Surgeon.

She completed a Master of Science (MSc) at the University of Birmingham and is a Lecturer at the University of Birmingham. She has also undertaken postgraduate training in laser therapy, scar management, and patient safety.

Experience

Miss D’Asta is a Consultant Paediatric Burns & Laser Surgeon at Birmingham Children’s Hospital, with over 15 years of international experience in burn care, scar management and laser therapy.

She has a specialist interest in the assessment and treatment of burn, surgical and traumatic scars, combining advanced laser therapy with personalised scar management to improve function, appearance and quality of life.

Her specialist surgical registration is in Paediatric Surgery, while her scar management practice includes adults and children with burn, surgical and traumatic scars.

Miss D’Asta also has particular expertise in advanced scar assessment. Through her clinical practice and medical research, she has developed extensive experience using specialist assessment technologies, including high-frequency ultrasound, Cutometer® and Mexameter®, to better understand the skin and scars, personalise treatment and monitor progress over time.

Her specialist burns and trauma background allows her to understand the complete journey of scar healing, enabling treatment to be tailored according to the type of scar, stage of healing and each patient’s individual goals.

Miss D’Asta combines evidence-based scar management with a holistic approach to healing, recognising the importance of skin health, nutrition and long-term rehabilitation. She has extensive experience adapting scar treatments for patients with autism, ADHD, sensory processing differences, healthcare-related anxiety and previous traumatic experiences. By tailoring communication, adapting the clinical environment and using behavioural strategies where appropriate, she aims to make treatment more comfortable, accessible and positive while achieving the best possible clinical outcomes.

Outside work, Miss D’Asta enjoys travelling, gardening and spending time with her family. She is actively involved in community projects supporting children and young people and has a particular interest in nutrition, lifestyle medicine and healthy ageing.
