- MBChB, Warwick. This is a medical degree and shows I am a doctor.
- MRCP (UK). This stands for Members of the Royal College of Physicians and is granted to those who have passed the diplomate examinations in internal medicine.
- GMC Specialist Register for Dermatology. This means I have completed all the necessary training and experience to be called a Consultant Dermatologist.

Training
Dr Mahmood studied Medicine at the University of Warwick after graduating with a First Class Honours degree in Biological Sciences from the University of Leicester, where she was awarded the Novartis Prize for outstanding academic performance. During medical school she also received a Merit Award for excellence in surgical examinations.
Following qualification she completed higher specialist dermatology training across leading centres in the Midlands and Scotland before becoming a Consultant Dermatologist. She is also a Member of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP UK), has passed the national Dermatology Specialty Certificate Examination (SCE) and holds a Diploma in Dermatology from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow.
Experience
Alongside her work at Midland Skin, Dr Mahmood is an NHS Consultant Dermatologist at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust, based at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
She has more than 14 years’ experience in dermatology and manages a wide range of skin conditions, from common problems such as acne, pigmentation, eczema and psoriasis to more complex inflammatory skin diseases. She also has expertise in diagnosing skin cancer, managing hair loss and treating skin conditions affecting patients with darker skin tones, where diagnosis and treatment can present unique challenges.
She combines evidence-based medicine with a compassionate, personalised approach, helping patients understand their diagnosis and develop realistic treatment plans that fit their lifestyle.
Dr Mahmood believes in working collaboratively with patients, ensuring they fully understand their condition, the available treatment options and what results they can realistically expect.
Additional information
Dr Mahmood is actively involved in dermatology research, education and improving standards of patient care.
She has published research in peer-reviewed dermatology journals on acne, skin of colour and autoimmune skin disease, and has co-authored textbook chapters on dermatological treatments. Her work has been presented nationally and internationally.
She has a particular interest in improving dermatology care for patients with skin of colour and previously served as Research Lead for the Skin of Colour Training Committee UK (SOCTUK), contributing to national educational initiatives and advisory groups.
Dr Mahmood is also passionate about teaching. She is Joint Training Lead for Dermatology at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, regularly teaches dermatology trainees and GPs, and is invited nationally to lecture on acne and skin of colour dermatology.
Outside of medicine, Dr Mahmood enjoys baking, learning languages and Pilates, helping her maintain a healthy work-life balance.
