• Qualified Consultant Surgeon
• MBBS (London). This means I have completed a medical degree and I am a doctor.
• FRCSEd. This means I have completed specialist training in surgery and I can work as a consultant surgeon.
• GMC specialist register. This means I am a specialist surgeon and registered with the General Medical Council. This is the equivalent of being  ‘board certified’ in surgery.
• MS. This means I have a Master of Surgery Degree.
• I see adults with benign skin lesions

Prof Alok Tiwari is a Consultant Surgeon at Midland Skin. He is on the specialist register for general surgery and also holds an NHS post as a Consultant Surgeon.

Prof Tiwari focuses on the care and treatment of benign skin lesions such as lipomas and cysts.

He is known for his jovial humour and his refined operating skills.

Training

To become a Consultant Surgeon, Prof Tiwari first studied medicine at the Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School and then completed Specialist Training in General and Vascular surgery in London and Essex. He also undertook a fellowship in Sydney developing skills in the latest endovascular techniques.

He has been awarded a CCT in General Surgery, which means he is on the GMC Specialist register. This is the highest standing for a Surgeon in the UK and is the defining criteria for a specialist.

Professor Tiwari joined University Hospital Birmingham in 2011 and holds several academic roles, including Visiting Professor of Vascular Surgery at Birmingham City University and Honorary Associate Professor at the University of Birmingham. He is actively involved in teaching and training both medical students and specialist trainees. He played a key role in establishing the diabetic foot service. With over 110 publications on various aspects of vascular surgery, Professor Tiwari is also the current Training Program Director for vascular surgery in the West Midlands.

Additional information

Prof Tiwari is an exceptionally skilled in surgery – being qualified to repair a carotid artery, he is able to efficiently deal with skin lesions of concern.

Outside of work , Prof Tiwari enjoys cycling, gardening and spending time with family.
